Privacy Policy

Effective 28 October 2026

Moonpull Tarot is a tarot app for iPhone and iPad, made for quiet reflection. This policy says what the app and the website at moonpulltarot.com do with your information, in plain words. The short version: your readings and journal are yours, they live on your device and in your own iCloud, and we only ever see the little we need to run a feature you chose to use.

Your readings and journal

Every reading you save, every note, tag and question, is stored on your device. If iCloud is on, it also syncs between your devices through your own iCloud account (Apple's CloudKit private database). We cannot read it; it never passes through our servers. Deleting the app removes it from that device. Your journal stays in your iCloud until you delete it there, and you can export the whole journal as a text file at any time from Settings.

AI readings (Tarot Plus)

Free readings show each card's written meaning, on your device, and nothing is sent anywhere. Tarot Plus readings are written by AI. When you reveal one, your question, the spread and the cards you drew are sent through our server to an AI provider, currently Anthropic, which writes the interpretation. When you draw a clarifier card, the reading's interpretation is sent too so the clarifier can refer to it. Nothing else is sent: not your name, your journal, your notes or tags, or anything that identifies you. The request carries a random visitor number used only to limit how many requests one device can make in a minute.

Our server keeps a brief log of each request for cost and quality: the cards drawn and the length of your question, never its text. The provider processes the request under its own API data terms. If the AI is unavailable, the app uses the built-in meanings instead.

Usage counts

The app sends anonymous usage counts — which features are used and how often, and which cards come up — never your questions, notes or readings. They are tied to a random id that is deleted with the app, not to you.

Moon Circle

Moon Circle lets Tarot Plus members share their daily card with a few friends. If you join one, you sign in with Apple, and our server stores:

Your questions, notes, interpretations and the rest of your journal are never sent to Moon Circle. Your Plus status is confirmed with Apple's signed purchase record, which we check but do not keep beyond the date it runs until.

Friends can remove each other. "Remove and report" sends us an email with the reported name so we can act on it. Leave Moon Circle in Settings deletes your account and everything above from our server, and tells Apple to revoke the sign-in.

Give a trial

A Tarot Plus member can give a friend a free month through a gift link. To make that work our server records which link handed out which one-time offer code, and Apple tells us when a code is redeemed and when the resulting subscription starts, renews or is refunded (App Store Server Notifications). That record holds Apple's transaction and offer identifiers only, never a name or payment details.

Shared readings

When you share a reading, the app makes a link that holds the cards, the spread, the day and the moon phase, nothing more. It never holds your question, notes or interpretation. The link also carries a short random tag, made once when the app is installed, so we can count how often shared pages are viewed. The tag is never tied to your name, your account or anything else about you, and it does not follow you across other apps or sites. When someone opens a shared page, our server logs that view with the tag and the usual web server details (address and browser), which it keeps briefly.

The SPREAD

If you sign up for news about The SPREAD, our zine, your email address is sent through our server to our mailing-list service, Loops, and used only to send you that news. Every email has an unsubscribe link.

Help and support messages

If you send us a message from the app's Help page, our server passes it to Loops, which emails it to us. It holds what you wrote, the topic you picked, your email address if you gave one so we can reply, and your app version, phone model and iOS version so we can help with problems. We use it only to answer you. Our server doesn't keep a copy.

Purchases

Tarot Plus and any deck purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. The app shows us Apple's signed purchase record so it can unlock what you bought, and we check that record on our server for Moon Circle and gift links.

Notifications

Reminders for your daily card, the moon's phases, news and a free trial's end are scheduled on your device by the app. The Moon Circle digest and the notice that a friend reacted to your card are the notifications our server sends, through Apple, and only if they are on in Settings. The digest and the app's own reminders are off until you turn them on. The reaction notice is on once you are in a Circle, and you can turn it off in Settings; it is never sent between 10 pm and 8 am your time.

What we don't do

No advertising, no tracking, no analytics SDKs, no selling or sharing of anything about you. The app asks for no location, contacts or photos. Our servers keep short-lived logs for rate limiting and troubleshooting, and nothing in them identifies you by name.

Children

The app is rated for ages 12 and up and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version appears here with a new effective date, and the app tells you about anything that matters.
